I thought it was supposed to be going to an every-two-year schedule, but hopefully they’ll have this again this year. It was a lot of fun last year
I’ve been running a few nights a week and it isn’t going too badly as long as I use my inhaler.
My asthma is aggravated by both the cold dry air and my allergies. I’m now on Flonase for the allergies, but still need the inhaler in order to run.
Saturday we’re going to see Children of Men with recently engaged Jon and Sarah Should be an awesome weekend!

I managed to pull off a PR running the Port to Fort 6k on Sunday! I completed the course in 28:48, for a pace of 7:45. I really hadn’t expected to beat last year’s time, but somehow I managed.
This was also Bill’s first race – ever. He ran the whole thing without walking which is a huge feat for his first race. I’m really proud of him for doing this, it’s a great acheivement.
This coming weekend I won’t be running much, but the next weekend is the Bay Bridge 10k.
It’ll be my longest race this year yet, and a LONG uphill, followed by a LONG downhill. Did I mention I haven’t been doing any hill workouts yet this year?
My near-term goal is going to be to shift from these shorter races to focusing on marathon training for the fall. Speed workouts at the track on Wednesday nights and long runs on the weekend with cross training (cycling mostly) the other weekend day.

This weekend was great!
First up was the CSA 8k race in DC on Saturday.
I finished in 40:36 which equates to a pace of 8:10 – pretty good for me on this course, I beat last year’s time by 2:30.
I wore the Forerunner to track my pace and stats while running. I didn’t look at my heart rate while running and I’m glad I didn’t – it was in the high 170′s the whole race!
Then Sunday Bill and I did a short 3 mile recovery run on the course of the Port to Fort 6k this coming Sunday, and I was able to talk him into signing up for it too.
Yesterday Jon and I did a 40 mile bike ride on the BWI and B&A trails in Baltimore.
It was an excellent weekend – we need more nice weekends like this one

The weekend was great!
First up was the Manna DC 5k race Saturday morning. I had been concentrating on breathing, cadence, and form for most of the race, but when I saw the finish line I decided to really push it.
As you can see I slipped into really bad form – classic heel-striking. The good news is that I beat last year’s time for the same race by a minute and a half. The official results haven’t been posted yet, and it wasn’t a chip race, but my time was 25:53. Not too bad for a race with a long windy hill climb in the last mile.
Saturday evening Bill, Jon and I went to see Kathleen Edwards at the Ram’s Head Tavern in Annapolis. She was really good, and has a beautiful voice, but the opening act, Joel Plaskett, really stole the show.
Sunday Jon and I did our first bike ride of the season. I got to test out the new bike computer – the Garmin Edge 305 with cadence and heart rate monitor.
The results can be seen here and here. I recorded the two loops as separate tracks to compare them individually. It’s awesome to be able to see all the data after the workout. I really love the bright display and being able to watch the cadence and heart rate during the ride.
